Toxic Town Netflix TV Series has been released on 27 February 2025. Its story is very emotional and heart-touching because it is based on a true incident and tries to show the effect of pollution on common people in today’s time.
This true incident happened in 1996 in Corby, a small and underdeveloped town of London. In this, Netflix has changed the names of some people and also added some fictional characters. Some women living in Corby get infected with some dangerous genetic diseases during pregnancy. This poisonous virus does not affect their body, but their children develop genetic disease problems. The name of the director of this Netflix series is Minkie Spiro and its creative story is written by Jack Thorne.

Steel manufacturing work used to take place in Corby, a town in London. Workers from South Scotland used to come here to work. The British Steel company had to be closed in 1979 due to heavy losses. The closure of this company resulted in 10,000 Scottish people losing their jobs. To solve this economic problem of Corby, Corby Council restarted this project.
The work of this company produced a lot of waste material. The company used to dump this waste far away from Corby Town. Large lorry trucks were used for this work. In these trucks, the bad waste was dumped very quickly outside the town. The steel company used to provide incentives to the truck drivers for doing this.
The company encouraged only quantity work by compromising on quality in its cleaning department. The trucks used to take the garbage out of the city were not properly maintained, due to which the wet debris and dust kept in the truck fell on the way. This waste was mixed with some toxic chemicals, which put the animals at risk of getting terrible diseases. Some women of Corby came under the effect of these toxic particles. This affected their unborn children, causing serious genetic problems in them.
The children of pregnant women of Corby do not develop fully and some physical problems are seen in the children born. The root cause of this problem was the toxic carbon compounds emitted from Corby Steel Factory, which affected the pregnant women.
Main story of Toxic Town
In this Netflix series, only four women have been included in the mainstream and their story has been shown. The names of these four women are Susan McIntyre, Tracey Taylor, Maggie Mahon and Pattie Walker (law firm Owner). Out of these, Susan McIntyre is the most prominent character, who has been given the most screen time.
Susan McIntyre gives birth to a child after getting pregnant, whom she names Connor. The fingers of Connor’s left hand were not fully developed since birth. Along with Susan’s child, this problem is also seen in the children of some other women of Corby. Their children are also physically handicapped like Connor.
Many years later, it is revealed through a news reporter that whatever happened to these children was not a natural disease, but was caused by exposure to toxic chemicals released by the Steel company when these women were pregnant.
Susan contacts other victim women and files a legal case against Corby Steel Company. In this fight for justice, all these mothers have to face many difficulties because Corby Council was very careless in its duties and the rules made by the Steel Company were not being followed. Corby Council was also involved in this case.

Toxic Town tries to explain this serious problem by displaying it in an excellent way. I was not disappointed after watching this series. It is definitely worth watching once.
