Plankton: The Movie

Nickelodeon Media is very popular in the production of Cartoon Series and children’s movies. Nickelodeon often makes movies based on cartoon series. Recently, they have produced a new movie based on the SpongeBob SquarePants cartoon. This movie is called Plankton The Movie. Nickelodeon has released this movie on Netflix on March 6, 2025. I have watched this Plankton movie, and I am giving a detailed review on whether parents can show this film to their children.

Plankton The Movie Storyline Summary

This movie has been given a TV-Y7 certificate in the USA. It is made for children aged 7 years and above. Before releasing it on Netflix, it has been dubbed in multiple languages. I have just finished watching it. What does it show?

If you have watched the SpongeBob SquarePants Cartoon Show, then you must be aware of Bikini Bottoms. It is a city under the ocean where SpongeBob and his friends live together. Before this, Nickelodeon had already made six movies in this cartoon series. Plankton is the seventh movie in this series. Plankton is a resident of Bikini Bottoms and looks like a small green insect. Since childhood, he has dreamed of ruling Bikini Bottom and the outside world. Plankton is very intelligent in studies and has extensive knowledge of technology and machine learning.

He uses his knowledge to create a computer program full of artificial intelligence. He names this computer machine “Karen”. He programs it in such a way that it always assists him using its intelligence. Karen and Plankton love each other very much. But every time Plankton fails before he can take over the world. Frustrated by his repeated failures, he gets angry at Karen and lashes out at her. This causes Karen to change her system, altering both her body and behavior.

In this transformation, she becomes the most powerful woman in Bikini Bottom and turns into a terrifying robot. She soon destroys Bikini Bottom with her fearsome intentions. Seeing this, Plankton becomes very depressed. But SpongeBob reminds him of his responsibility toward Karen. When Plankton realizes this, he single-handedly faces the evil Karen and forces her to turn back to normal.

Positivity and Negativity of Plankton The Movie

While watching this movie, I found Plankton’s entry scene very impressive. I have seen such video talks in many other films, but I have never seen anything like this in a cartoon show. Nickelodeon has done an excellent job with the 3D animation.

The love relationship between Plankton and Karen is not well-developed. Director Dave Needham and Writer Mr. Lawrence have made a big mistake here.

I had to listen to numerous songs throughout this 1 hour 27-minute movie, even though there was no real need for so many songs. I feel that the director deliberately included an excessive number of songs to extend the film’s duration.

Watching the husband and wife relationship between Plankton and Karen felt strange to me. Perhaps it’s because I’m not a child, so many questions arose in my mind. However, their relationship should have been given more screen time, and their story should have been explained in a more concise manner.

Will Children Enjoy This Movie?

This movie, made for children aged 7 years, is truly a good 3D realistic movie. Personally, I found its visual design very impressive. There is no violence or gore in the film, so there is no problem in showing it to young children. This movie has the power to make your little one laugh.

In this movie, poetry has been incorporated into songs in various scenes. Plankton is shown as a very intelligent character who excels in studies during his school and college life. This gesture will have a positive impact on children. There is no issue in letting children watch this movie.
